Giving a Sitz Bath

Materials needed:

• Brush
• Comb
• Bath towel
• Other personal care products ( hair spray, oils )
• Hair pins
• Mirror, if needed

Procedure:

1. Explain what you are going to do
2. Wash your hands
3. Obtain material listed above
4. Provide privacy (close door, pull curtain)
5. Raise bed to convenient working height. Lower rail on side where you are working
6. Place client in upright position in bed or in chair, if needed
7. Place bath towel around client's shoulders. If the client is in bed, place towel under head to cover the pillow
8. Part hair and separate into sections
9. Brush hair, section by section, working from the root to end of hair
10. Arrange hair according to client's wishes
11. Remove towel
12. Make sure client is safe and comfortable
13. Place bed in lowest position
14. Clean supplies and store in proper location
15. Place soiled bath towel in laundry container to be washed
16. Wash your hands
17. Record what you have done and report any problems
