Assisting Mother to Bottle Feed

Material needed:

• Bottle of formula
• "spit-up" cloth

Procedure:

1. Wash your hands
2. Obtain material listed above
3. Warm bottle by placing in a pan of warm water until it is about room temperature. Can also use a microwave. After the time is complete, shake bottle and test the temperature by placing some formula on the inside of your forearm.
4. Have mother wash her hands
5. Help the mother to a comfortable position
6. Change baby's diaper, if necessary
7. Bring bottle and baby to mother
8. Bottle should be tilted so that neck and nipple are always covered with formula. Never prop bottle
9. Have mother burp the baby half way during the feeding and at the end
10. Feeding is discontinued when the baby is no longer eating
11. Change diaper
12. Place baby in a safe and comfortable position
13. Wash your hands
14. Record what you have done.
