Moving Client to Side of Bed

  1. Explain what you are going to do
  2. Wash your hands
  3. Provide privacy (close door, pull curtains)
  4. Raise bed to convenient working height
  5. Lock wheels on bed, or push bed against wall if there are no brakes
  6. Lower rail on side where you are working
  7. Fold back top sheet
  8. Stand facing bed, feet about 12 inches apart, one foot in front of the other. As you perform each move, shift your weight from your front foot to your rear foot.
  9. Slip one arm under client reaching across to the opposite shoulder. Place other arm under middle of client's back
  10. On a count of three, rock back and shift upper segment of client's body to edge of bed
  11. Place arm under client's waist and buttocks. Move to edge of bed in same manner
  12. Place arm under client's thighs and lower legs. Move to edge of bed in same manner
  13. Make sure client is in good body alignment. Replace top sheet
  14. Place bed in lowest position ( raise rails if needed or indicated )
  15. Wash your hands
